Islamabad, 18 July 2022 (TDI): Babar Azam, Pakistan’s Cricket Team Captain has become the fastest Asian batter to score 10,000 runs in international cricket.

This time, Azam surpassed former India captain Virat Kohli to become the fastest Asian to reach 10,000 runs in international cricket.

Babar Azam reached the landmark during the Green Shirts’ first Test against Sri Lanka at Galle International Stadium. He made this record in just 228 innings.

If compared to the previous record, Azam broke the record of Javed Miandad in Pakistan Cricket history. Javed Miandad made his record in 248 innings.

Moreover, other notable Pakistani batters with 10,000 international runs include Saeed Anwar, who made a record in 255 innings, Mohammed Yusuf, who made a record in 261 innings, and Inzamam Ul Haq who made a record in 281 innings.

This milestone has been reached by 11 batters from Pakistan. Also, he is the fifth fastest person in history to complete 10,000 international runs.

West Indies’ legend, Vivian Richards of West Indies is at the top, having reached the milestone in just 206 innings. Hashim Amla of South Africa (217), Brian Lara of West Indies (220), Joe Root of England (222), and Azam Khan follow him (228).

Azam’s consistency has propelled him to the top of the T20I and ODI batting rankings, while the right-handed batter ranks fourth in the Test batting rankings.

He holds the record for the most consecutive 50-plus scores in men’s international cricket. Besides, he is Pakistan’s first world cup captain to defeat India.

Babar Azam is also the first Pakistani to be named ICC One-Day International Cricketer of the Year. In one-day internationals, he has the highest individual score for a Pakistani captain.

In addition, he is the fastest batsman in T20I history to reach 2000 and 2500 runs. He is one of three Pakistani batsmen to have scored a century in all formats.

Furthermore, he has Pakistan’s highest T20I score. Also, he leads the PSL in run scoring in 2020 and 2021, with 473 and 554 runs, respectively.
