Baku, 29 June 2024 (TDI): Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with James O’Brien, the Assistant to the US Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs.
During the meeting, the representatives of both countries discussed a wide range of bilateral and multilateral agenda items.
They delved into the current situation and prospects of the bilateral normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia and addressed various regional issues of mutual concern.
During the meeting, emphasis was placed on the significance of advancing bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and the United States.
This focus was underscored by their longstanding historical ties and shared interests across various domains.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov provided detailed information to the other party regarding the regional developments in the post-conflict period.
He also discussed the ongoing negotiations toward a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Moreover, it was highlighted that Azerbaijan, as the initiator of key elements in the peace process with Armenia, has a vested interest in fostering peace and stability within the region.
Despite the significant progress achieved on the project, it was underscored that Armenia’s constitutional reforms and amendments to legislative acts are crucial.
These reforms are pivotal to relinquishing ongoing claims against Azerbaijan’s territorial sovereignty and integrity.
Additionally, it was asserted that Armenia’s policy of militarization is viewed as detrimental to the prospects of peace and stability in the region.
During the meeting, both parties exchanged views on other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
Azerbaijan-US Bilateral Relations
The bilateral relationship between the United States and Azerbaijan is characterized by strategic cooperation across several key areas.
Both countries share interests in energy security, counterterrorism efforts, regional stability in the South Caucasus, and economic development.
