Baku, 3 September 2024 (TDI): The trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan has reached $91 million in the first half of 2024, marking a 14% increase compared to the same period last year.
This figure represents the highest level of trade between the two countries for the first six months in at least the past 13 years.
During this period, Azerbaijan’s imports from Uzbekistan amounted to $77 million, an increase of 36.2% over the previous year’s figure.
The imports included refined copper wire, pipes, and tubes valued at $10.7 million; knitted fabrics worth $9.45 million; car bodies amounting to $6.5 million; and engines for land vehicles valued at $4 million.
Other notable imports were dried grapes ($3.6 million), television communication receivers ($3.4 million), air conditioners ($3.4 million), tufted and non-tufted carpets and rugs ($2.8 million), and pipe tobacco ($2.2 million).
Peanuts imports were ($1.5 million), fresh apricots ($1.4 million), paper products such as napkins, towels, tablecloths, and cotton wool ($1.3 million), and poultry eggs ($1.2 million).
On the export side, Azerbaijan’s goods to Uzbekistan were valued at $14 million in the first half of 2024, a 40.5% decrease from the same period last year.
Major Exports
Major exports included white sugar at $2 million, fresh apples valued at $1.2 million, aluminum alloys worth $3.25 million, almonds and hazelnuts worth $1.1 million, and varnishes and paints amounting to $605.5 thousand.
Other exports featured passenger cars ($560 thousand), polyethylene ($520 thousand), crude oil and oil products ($434 thousand), dried peas ($297 thousand), and starch ($268 thousand).
The significant growth in bilateral trade highlights the strengthening economic ties between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, driven by diversified imports and exports across various sectors.
