Baku (TDI): Azerbaijan commemorated its Victory Day on Friday, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s history—a day that celebrates resilience, the restoration of its territories, and a renewed path toward regional peace.

The Victory Day holds profound significance for Azerbaijan, symbolizing not just a military triumph but also the country’s enduring struggle for independence and territorial integrity.

Since gaining independence, Azerbaijan has faced years of military aggression, occupation, and ethnic cleansing by Armenia, compounded by the displacement of nearly one million of its citizens.

Despite numerous peace efforts, Azerbaijan remained firm in its stance, emphasizing that it would not accept the occupation of its lands.

The conflict reignited in September 2020 when Armenia launched attacks on Azerbaijani civilian and military targets.

In response, Azerbaijan launched a counter-offensive, which led to what is now known as the Patriotic War, a conflict that ultimately resulted in Azerbaijan’s victory and the restoration of its occupied territories.

This victory also brought the long-unimplemented United Nations Security Council resolutions to the forefront, reinforcing Azerbaijan’s territorial sovereignty and enabling the return of displaced communities to their homeland.

The liberation of the occupied lands was seen as a turning point, not just militarily but also diplomatically, as Azerbaijan demonstrated its unwavering commitment to peace and stability in the region.

In a final phase of operations in September 2023, Azerbaijan removed the remaining Armenian armed forces from the Garabagh region, marking the end of the illegal occupation.

Azerbaijan now calls on Armenia to engage in the peace process constructively, acknowledging the new geopolitical realities for the sake of sustainable regional stability.

Pakistan-Azerbaijan Ties

Throughout this tumultuous journey, Pakistan has remained a staunch ally, offering consistent support for Azerbaijan during the Patriotic War.

Pakistan’s diplomatic stance—refusing to establish ties with Armenia due to the occupation—further solidifies the deep-rooted brotherhood between the two nations, which also extends to shared positions on global issues like the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.

Azerbaijan’s Victory Day is a reminder of the nation’s determination, its struggle for sovereignty, and the ongoing efforts to secure lasting peace in the region.

The day’s observance underscores the importance of resilience and the pursuit of justice, both at home and in the international community.
