Baku, 29 October 2021 (TDI): Azerbaijan Foreign Ministry congratulated Turkey on its Independence day. It is stated that Azerbaijan expresses best wishes. Moreover, it expressed warm congratulations to the Government and the People of Turkey.
Independence Day
29th October is celebrated as Turkey’s Independence Day. The occasion marks the country’s foray into a new system and cementing its independence after the devastating World War II.
Relations between Turkey and Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan got independence on 30 August 1991. In November 1991, Turkey became the first state to recognize Azerbaijan. They developed diplomatic relations on 14 January 1992. Relations have always been strong between Baku and Ankara. They are often described as “one nation with two states”. Both countries are Turkic speaking, of Turkic origin. Turkey has been a staunch supporter of Azerbaijan in its efforts to consolidate its independence.
Military co-operation:
Military cooperation between Azerbaijan and Turkey first emerged in 1992. They signed an agreement signed between the Azerbaijani and Turkish governments on military education and weapon equipment. Also, the Azerbaijani and the Turkish governments have closely cooperated on defense and security issues. Azerbaijan has become Turkey’s major gas supplier in August 2020.
Trade relations:
On 11 September 2020, Turkish Former Trade Minister, Ruhsar Pekcan said that Turkey aims to sign a Free Trade Agreement with Azerbaijan. Moreover, it will increase trade turnover between the two countries. on 25 February, Azerbaijan and Turkey signed the Preferential Trade Agreement. It aims to step up efforts to bring their trade volume.
