Aurangzeb, US Envoy Discuss Economic Cooperation

Islamabad (TDI): The newly appointed acting US envoy to Pakistan, Elizabeth Horst, met with Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb in Islamabad on Monday to discuss the growing economic ties between the two countries, the Finance Division confirmed in a statement.

Horst, a seasoned US diplomat, officially took over as Chargé d’Affaires last week following her tenure as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary in the US State Department’s Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs.

Her appointment as the acting top diplomat in Pakistan comes at a time when both countries are actively exploring deeper cooperation in trade and investment.

During the meeting, Horst commended Pakistan’s recent economic reforms and acknowledged what she called “positive momentum” in bilateral engagement.

She reaffirmed Washington’s intent to further bolster trade and investment links with Islamabad.

The Finance Ministry said the discussion offered a platform for both sides to exchange views on shared interests and to reaffirm the overall improvement in Pakistan-US relations.

The diplomatic meeting comes amid a broader upswing in Pakistan-US relations.

Just last week, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio praised Pakistan’s contribution to global and regional peace during his first official meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.
