Djibouti, 28 July 2022 (TDI): The 1094th meeting on African Union Transmission Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) was held online at the Ministerial level by the Peace and Security Council (AUPSC) of the African Union.
Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, the Djibouti Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister as well as the chair of the month of the Peace and Security Council, began the meeting with his opening statement.

Efforts for Somalia’s Peace and Security
The AUPSC showed solidarity with the Somalian people and the Government. It looked forward to a more peaceful, stable, and safe Somalia. The Government of Somalia was also commended by the council on the election of its first-ever female Deputy Speaker.
The efforts of all the working men and women behind the ATMIS cause were also accredited by the Council. A tribute to their sacrifices for the great cause of implementing peace in Somalia was also paid.
The African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS)
ATMIS is basically a multidimensional mission incorporating within it the civilian, police and military aspects. It replaced the AMISOM i.e. African Union Transition Mission in Somalia. This was authorized by UNSC and AU so that the Somali Transition Plan could be implemented with full force. The Council for this meeting urged that the cooperation and joint engagements among UN, ATMIS and the Government of Somalia must be enhanced.
Adeoye Bankole’s Recommendations
The African Union Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security Adeoye Bankole also brought attention to some very important issues. He urged the Council to provide sustainable, adequate, and predictable financing for ATMIS. He also asked the organizations of the United Nations, African Union, and European Union to deal with and address the economical challenges that ATMIS faces.

Adeoye Bankole also claimed to continuously work alongside all the stakeholders for the promotion of peace and the sustenance of peace-building activities. He also took to Twitter his statement of adjuring the Council to support peace and democracy efforts for the forthcoming elections in Somalia.
