Asian Hockey Champions Trophy Starts in Mongolia

ISLAMABAD September 07, 2024 (TDI): The 8th edition of the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy will begin tomorrow (Sunday) at the Moqi training base in Hulunbuir City, Mongolia.

Pakistan’s newly appointed head coach, Tahir Zaman, has joined the team in Mongolia for their opening match against Malaysia, scheduled to start at 12:45 PM Pakistan Standard Time.

The tournament features six teams: India, China, Pakistan, Malaysia, Japan, and Korea. Defending champions India, fresh off a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics, will face hosts China on Sunday as they aim to secure their fifth title.

Asian Hockey Champions Trophy Format

The tournament will kick off with a league stage comprising 15 matches. The fifth and sixth-placed teams will compete in the fifth-place match, while the top four teams will advance to the semi-finals.

In the semi-finals, the first-placed team will play against the fourth-placed team, and the second-placed team will face the third-placed team. The losers of the semi-finals will compete for third place, with the final set for September 17 to crown the champion.
