Tehran, 5 August 2021 (TDI): Ashraf Ghani, President of Afghanistan met with Ebrahim Raisi, the Iranian President-elect at the Presidential Palace in Tehran today.
The two leaders discussed matters pertaining to bilateral cooperation and ways to strengthen the ties. President Ghani congratulated his counterpart and conveyed good wishes. On his part, Ebrahim Raisi asserted that Afghanistan holds significant importance in Iran’s foreign policy. Also, he stated that Iran is in favor of the current legitimate government of Afghanistan and is concerned about human rights in Afghanistan. He affirmed that Iran wishes for a durable and sustainable peace settlement between the conflicting parties in Afghanistan.
Earlier this morning, President Ashraf Ghani along with his high-level delegation reached Tehran to attend the inauguration of Ebrahim Raisi as the new President of Iran.
