Hanoi, 20 August 2021 (TDI): On August 18, ASEAN nations and partners gathered virtually and pledged US $9 million in humanitarian assistance for Myanmar. Foreign Ministers from ASEAN countries and representatives of the bloc’s partners participated at the virtual conference and was chaired by ASEAN Secretary-General Dato Lim Jock Hoi, Coordinator for Humanitarian Assistance of ASEAN and the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance (AHA).

They discussed the strategy to assist Myanmar and concluded to implement it in two phases – lifesaving and life stabilization.

ASEAN will mobilize vaccine resources, pharmacy, medical equipment, and relevant supplies for Myanmar, as the first phase. The first-aid package is expected to arrive in Myanmar before August 31.
