Islamabad, 3 December 2022 (TDI): Asad Majeed Khan, ambassador of Pakistan to Belgium, has been appointed as the country’s foreign secretary.

Asad Majeed Khan is a career foreign service officer for Pakistan. He has been proposed to serve as Pakistan’s 31st Federal Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Ambassador Khan has held a number of significant diplomatic positions during the course of his almost 34-year diplomatic career.

Ambassador Asad served as Islamabad’s ambassador to the US under the PTI administration when former Prime Minister Imran Khan announced receiving a cipher, which included information about a plot against the then government.

Asad Majeed is a BS-22 officer of the Foreign Service; Ambassador Asad Majeed served as an ambassador to Luxembourg and the European Union.

According to a statement from the Establishment Division, Asad Majeed is the new foreign secretary with immediate effect and until further instructions.

Dr. Asad Majeed Khan currently serves as Ambassador in the Pakistani Embassy in Belgium, the European Union, and Luxembourg.

When the Foreign Office could not agree on a permanent Federal Secretary candidate, Jauhar Saleem, the ambassador to Italy, was appointed as the interim bureaucratic head of the Ministry.

In his final official act, the previous foreign secretary Sohail Mehmood picked Asad Majeed Khan as his successor to serve the government.

Moreover, he held positions such as Pakistan’s Charge d’ Affaires pro tempore to the United States, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Japan, Additional Foreign Secretary (Americas), Director General (Americas), and Director General (West Asia).

He has also served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Pakistan in Washington, D.C., Additional Secretary (Foreign Affairs) at the President’s Secretariat, Director General (United Nations), and Minister-Counsellor at the Permanent Mission.

Ambassador Asad has worked as a resource at several academic institutions and possesses a doctorate in international economic and business law (LLD) from Kyushu University, Japan.
