Washington, 17 September 2021 (TDI): Pakistan’s Ambassador to the USA Asad Majeed Khan spoke as the panel speaker in a webinar on the future of the Pakistan-US relationship following the withdrawal of foreign forces from Afghanistan organized by the Stimson Center on Thursday.
The Webinar covered an important discussion on the impact of Taliban Takeover in Afghanistan, Pakistan’s response to the developments and future of Pakistan-US relations.
Ambassador Asad Khan noted that Pakistan and the United States are on the same page for the future of Afghanistan as both countries require the Afghan Taliban to form an inclusive government. He stressed that Pakistan has joined the United States in calling on the Taliban to provide safe passage to the people who wish to leave the country and to uphold their commitments to maintaining peace in the region. Ambassador remarked on Afghanistan’s deteriorating situation as an inflection point and stated that Afghanistan has faced an “inflection point” in the form of the worst humanitarian crisis.
Ambassador khan called on the international community to play a greater role in assisting Afghanis to tackle the worsening humanitarian conditions while hoping that the world community wouldn’t repeat the same mistake of developing estrangement from Afghanistan.
