Oregon, 25 July 2022 (TDI): Pakistani athlete, Arshad Nadeem, stood fifth in the men’s javelin throw final at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon, United States.

He stood fifth with a season-best throw of 86.16 meters.

Arshad competed in the final against India’s Neeraj, Germany’s Anderson Peters, Germany’s Julian Weber, Czech Republic’s Jakub Vedlejch, Egypt’s Ehab Abdelrahman, Finland’s Oliver Helander, Japan’s Roderick Genki Dean, the United States’ Curtis Thompson, the Maldives’ Andrian Maldare, India’s Rohit Yadav, and Finland’s Lassi Etelatalo.

The country’s star javelin thrower qualified for the final on Friday by throwing 81.71m during his group B qualifying round, finishing ninth overall.

It is worth noting that Arshad also stood fifth in the Tokyo Olympics last year.

Arshad Nadeem’s Statment

Nadeem made history when he qualified for the World Athletics Championship final as the first Pakistani athlete. He was pleased with his fifth-place finish because he competed against top international athletes.

He said, “I didn’t just qualify but also gave a big performance, standing at number five in the world,” and “I felt very good because I participated in a competition after a year.”

Further, he added that he was not expecting this but managed to get big for Pakistan.

Nadeem claimed that he was injured before the Olympics but could not seek medical attention in time due to the global competition.

He claimed that his injury worsened after the Olympics and that he would have missed the World Athletics Championship if he had undergone surgery recommended by his doctor.

He shared that he had the capacity to do that, but the recent injury did not let him go beyond the limit. He further claimed that when he qualifies for the finals, his body will be able to accept a throw of 90 meters.
