Islamabad, 16 August 2024 (TDI): Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir on Friday hailed Arshad Nadeem’s remarkable achievement at the recently concluded Paris Olympics, the military’s media affairs wing said.
Arshad created history with a record-breaking throw of 92.97 metres in the final of the men’s javelin event, beating his Indian counterpart and defending champion Neeraj Chopra.

With his thrilling performance, Nadeem secured the first-ever individual gold medal for his country.
In his honour, the Army Chief hosted a grand ceremony at Army Auditorium GHQ and appreciated Arshad’s achievement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) news release said.
Legendary Olympians including the 1984 Olympic and National Hockey Teams, National Cricket Team, Street Football Team, Army Polo Team, Visually Impaired Cricket and Women’s Goal Ball Teams, Medal Winners of Common Wealth, SAF and Asian Games and participants of the Paris Olympics 2024 attended the event.

Some of the notable names included Jehangir Khan, Isalah Ud Din, Shahbaz Senior, Sohail Abbas, Muhammad Asif and Aisam-ul-Haq.
“The army chief also highlighted Arshad’s inspirational journey from humble beginnings to achieving greatness, emphasizing the importance of hard work and determination,” it added.
Gen Asim Munir expressed his resolve to empower not only sportsmen, but the entire wealth of Pakistani youth to achieve excellence towards a prosperous Pakistan.
