Arkadag International Conference Adopts Declaration on Child Welfare

Arkadag (TDI):  A milestone declaration was signed at the Arkadag International Conference titled “Year of Peace and Trust: Development of International Activities for the Sake of Children,” on Saturday.

The conference coincided with the 4th anniversary of the Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Charitable Foundation for Assistance to Children in Need of Guardianship.

Members of the conference signed a declaration to promote the rights of children and strengthen international commitments for peace and well-being of children.

To ensure better quality of life for children, the participants noted that it is necessary to encourage children to continue education and develop their creative abilities.

They also recognized the need to further develop international action for the protection of health, well-being and empowerment of children.

The participants noted that it is necessary to enhance international cooperation to create viable socio-economic conditions aimed at meeting children’s needs through the use of inclusive educational opportunities.

They agreed on the effectiveness of interaction between government agencies such as the Charity Fund for Providing Assistance to Children in Need of Guardianship named after Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and international humanitarian organizations including the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the Population Fund (UNFPA), the World Health Organization (WHO), and UNESCO for the protection of the motherhood and childhood.

They also emphasized on the necessity of creating viable conditions for the complex development of children and providing comprehensive assistance to them so they can achieve their potential in education, creativity and sports.

Moreover, the members highlighted the negative impacts of climate change on children. Global warming, depletion of water resources, desertification, soil erosion and other environmental disasters endanger the present and the future generations, the participants agreed.

To overcome the growing challenges, the participants of the conference emphasized that special attention needs to be paid to issues related to the protection of children’s health and providing them with necessary environmental education and moral support.

Participants also praised Turkmenistan’s achievements in child protection, including the successful implementation of its National Action Plan for 2023-2028, a vaccination coverage rate of over 95% among children, and notable progress in salt iodization and flour fortification programs.

The conference, which was part of the celebration of the Year of Peace and Trust, had brought together esteemed experts and officials from around the world to discuss key initiatives for international cooperation in child protection and development.

The conference highlighted key issues related to healthcare, medical, and educational services for children and adolescents.
