Islamabad, 23 August 2021 (TDI): Asim Iftikhar Ahmed has replaced Zahid Hafeez Chaudhry, as the new Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Asim Iftikhar Ahmed is a Pakistani career diplomat who is currently Additional Secretary, Asia Pacific, and is the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Previously, he worked as the Ambassador of Pakistan to the Kingdom of Thailand from June 2017 – July 2021. He has also been the Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nation Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific. Asim Iftikhar Ahmed is a well-versed government official who knows his job and does it really well.
He joined the Foreign Service of Pakistan in 1993, since then he was given various positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and involving Pakistan Missions abroad. He served as the Director-General (United Nations), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Islamabad (July 2014 to June 2017). Then he worked as the Minister and Political Coordinator (United Nation Security Council), Permanent Mission of Pakistan to the United Nations, New York (January 2012 – July 2014). He also worked as the Director (Security Council and Human Rights), United Nations Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He also served as the Deputy Chef de Cabinet of the President of the Sixty-Fourth Session of the United Nations General Assembly (September 2009 – September 2010).
He also served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs (August – September 2009). Once again he has been given the task to be the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
