Apple Plans to Switch to OLED Screens by 2025

-

Islamabad, 4 September 2024 (TDI): Apple will switch completely from liquid crystal displays (LCDs) to organic light-emitting diode (OLED) screens for all iPhone models sold in 2025 and later. This was reported by Japanese newspaper Nikkei on Tuesday, citing sources.

OLED screens are replacing LCD displays in televisions and smartphones because they produce higher contrast and more vibrant colors, which are perfect for high-definition entertainment.

According to Nikkei, Apple’s handset division would no longer include Japan’s Sharp Corp. and Japan Display.

Nikkei reports that China’s BOE Technology and South Korea’s LG Display are receiving orders from Apple for OLED screens for the next iPhone SE model.

According to the survey, whereas Sharp and Japan Display together accounted for around 70% of the market share for iPhone displays a decade ago, they only supplied LCDs for the iPhone SE lately and do not now mass-produce OLED displays for smartphones.

After introducing the iPhone X in 2017, Apple began using OLED displays. Afterwards, OLEDs are now used in premium iPhone models.

With the release of the most recent iPad Pro models in May, the business included OLED screens.
