Washington, 3 September 2021 (TDI): Today, Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken spoke with German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas. Secretary Blinken praises Foreign Minister Maas for Germany’s assistance in allowing thousands of Afghans to transit via German military bases.
More than 25000 Afghan evacuees reached the US airbase in Ramstein, Germany. The US officials, after screening them medically and evaluating their biometric data prepared them for the outgoing flights to the USA. US Army Officials at Dulles International Aiport and Philadelphia International Airport in the United States welcomed the evacuees and transported them to the care centers.
The last US military plane departed from the Hamid Karzai International Airport in the early morning hours of 31 August, officially concluding the US’s almost two-decade-long war in Afghanistan. US humanitarian aid to Afghans will continue to be provided by independent entities such as United Nations agencies and non-governmental groups.
