Beijing, 30 April 2024 (TDI): Ambassador Xie Feng delivered insightful remarks at the Experience Chinese Fashion and Arts event, held at the Chinese Embassy on 8 Apri 2024. The event showcased the rich heritage and contemporary allure of Chinese fashion and arts.
Qipao, a symbol of Chinese elegance, was highlighted for its exquisite craftsmanship and cultural significance. Additionally, this iconic attire embodies grace and confidence, reflecting the evolution of Chinese women’s fashion from tradition to modernity, Xie said.
Moreover, the qipao’s appeal extends globally, blending Eastern and Western elements to create a unique style admired by Hollywood stars and global fashion designers.

The ambassador said, “Qipao is one of a kind. Known for its exquisite traditional craftsmanship, qipao has been listed as a national-level intangible cultural heritage in China.
With its iconic style, aesthetic, and cultural value, qipao fully embodies the grace and confidence of Chinese women. In 2014, it was the outfit for leaders’ spouses at the 22nd APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Beijing.”

Furthermore, he discussed Chinese history, stating, “Over 2,100 years ago, Zhang Qian, a Han Dynasty envoy, made a journey westward, building bridges of exchanges between Eastern and Western cultures.
In the Tang Dynasty, China exchanged envoys with over 70 countries, and its capital Chang’an bustled with people from around the world.
From the introduction of Buddhism and Western learning to the all-around opening-up since 1978, Chinese civilization has retained its uniqueness through mutual learning with other cultures.”
Ambassador Xie emphasized the role of fashion and art in fostering international understanding and cooperation. Additionally, discussing the role of attire, he stated, “Attire is a window to understanding China.

Moreover, the Chinese civilization has run uninterrupted for thousands of years. It has explored new ground through reform and innovation, and gained fresh vigor by drawing on other cultures.”
