American Ambassador Donald Blome called on the Federal Minister of Commerce, Industries and Production, Dr. Gohar Ejaz in Ministry of Commerce

Islamabad, 9 September 2023 (TDI): American Ambassador Donald Blome called on the Federal Minister of Commerce, Industries and Production, Dr. Gohar Ejaz, on September 7.

American Ambassador and Federal Minister of Commerce discussed to strengthen bilateral trade relations, fostering mutual cooperation between the United States and Pakistan.

Moreover, Minister of Commerce elaborated on the government’s efforts for economic revival plan with the Ambassador underscoring the importance of economic growth of Pakistan’s future.

He also appreciated the US government for their continued support to Pakistan.

One of the key highlights of the meeting was the exploration of potential opportunities for boosting trade in various sectors, including Textile, Vale added Food products, Fresh Mangoes and Dates, Soybean and Beef.

Minister of Commerce Dr. Gohar Ejaz informed that the Government of Pakistan has formed a Special Investment Facilitation Council aimed at attracting investments in various sectors such as Mines and Minerals, Agriculture, Information Technology, and Energy.

Although he also invited that more US companies could explore the options to invest in these sectors.

During the meeting, discussions revolved around Pak-US bilateral trade, foreign direct investments in Pakistan, the activities of US companies operating in the country, and Pakistan’s exports to the United States.

Additionally, operational and regulatory concerns were addressed during the meeting.

The United States once again raised the issue of use of pirated software by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and certain restrictions on its goods.

At the end, issues relating to investment and signing of Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT) and wind power projects were also part of discussions between the US Ambassador and Minister of Commerce.
