All you need to know about SCO Summit 2022

Samarkand, 15 September 2022 (TDI): The 2022 annual summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Heads of State Council will be held in Samarkand on September 15-16. Heads of State from different countries will join the summit.

The Republic of Uzbekistan took over the chairmanship of the organization from Tajikistan on September 17, 2021. According to the Russian news agency TASS, the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, outlined the priorities and tasks of the chairmanship.

The summit will be attended by the leaders of the SCO Member States – the Republic of India, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the People’s Republic of China, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Russian Federation, and the Republic of Tajikistan.

Apart from this, the observer states to the Organization – the Republic of Belarus, the Islamic Republic of Iran, and Mongolia will also attend the summit.

Special Guests for SCO Summit

The Presidents of the Republic of Turkey, the Republic of Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, and the Republic of Armenia along with the heads of the United Nations and other authoritative international and regional organizations are invited as honorary guests.

The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif departed today for his two-day visit to Uzbekistan (15th-16th September 2022) for attending SCO-CHS. Shehbaz said that the SCO vision represents the aspirations of 40% of the world population.

The President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping had already arrived in Samarkand on 14 September by a special flight and began his state visit to Uzbekistan where he will also attend the 22nd Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, as well as the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, will also attend the SCO Summit in Samarkand.

The theme of SCO Summit 2022

The agenda of the Samarkand Summit will be the topical issues of further expanding multilateral cooperation, and the practical aspects and priority tasks of the SCO development will be considered.

There will also be an exchange of views on international and regional issues. It is also planned to adopt a solid package of documents to expand the Organization’s activities and deepen the regional cooperation in the priority areas.

The upcoming meeting will be the first face-to-face meeting of the SCO leaders in the last three years after the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020 and will also complete Uzbekistan’s chairmanship in the Organization.
