Doha, 22 February 2022 (TDI): Algerian President, Abdelmadjid Tebboune paid an official visit to Qatar. He arrived in Qatar at the invitation of Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for two days from 19 to 21 February.

Further, the Algerian President met with Qatar Amir and discussed bilateral relations between the two countries. Both sides exchanged views on regional and international issues of common concern in the meeting. Additionally, both sides pledged to increase cooperation in the trade, gas, and economic sectors.

Bilateral Agreements between Qatar and Algeria

On the visit, Alergia and Qatar officials signed various bilateral agreements to enhance cooperation between the two countries. Likewise, both officials signed an agreement on the judicial and legal partnership between Algeria and Qatar.

This will strengthen both country’s understanding of judicial and criminal matters. Moreover, the two countries agreed on cooperation in the education sector.

In the same vein, both countries signed two Memoranda of Understanding to enhance bilateral relations. In one of the Memoranda of Understanding (MoU), both agreed to establish political coordination and consultation between Algeria and Qatar’s Foreign Ministries.

The second Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is related to social development and family between both countries’ governments.

Relations between Algeria and Qatar

Both countries share warm diplomatic relations. Qataris investment counts for 74 percent of total investment in Algeria. The major investment includes the Algerian Qatari Steel project in the Bellara industrial zone.

Both countries share common views on several issues including the Palestinian issue, and policy against Israel. Moreover, Algeria supported Qatar’s stance in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) crises in 2017. Likewise, Qatar argues that Morocco and Algeria resolve their issues through peaceful means.
