Algeria Marks National Day, Praises Pakistan’s Historic Support

Islamabad (TDI): The Embassy of Algeria in Islamabad marked the 71st anniversary of Algeria’s National Day with a grand reception celebrating the country’s Glorious Revolution of November 1, 1954.

The event, attended by senior officials, diplomats, parliamentarians, and business leaders, featured Haroon Akhtar Khan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, as the chief guest. A ceremonial cake-cutting highlighted the occasion.

In his address, Ambassador of Algeria Dr. Brahim Romani paid tribute to the enduring friendship between Algeria and Pakistan. He recalled that Pakistan was among the earliest supporters of Algeria’s independence movement, backing its liberation struggle during the 1955 Bandung Conference and later at the United Nations.

“We remember with pride and gratitude Pakistan’s unwavering support during our revolution and after independence in 1962,” Dr. Romani said, adding that the partnership between the two nations continues through close cooperation in regional and international forums, including their shared service as non-permanent members of the UN Security Council.

He emphasized that both countries remain committed to multilateralism and justice for oppressed nations, particularly the causes of Palestine and Western Sahara.

Highlighting Algeria’s growing economic strength, the ambassador described his country as a strategic bridge between Africa, Europe, and Asia. Under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Algeria’s economy has shown strong momentum, with its GDP reaching $270 billion in 2024 and projected to hit $400 billion by 2027.

He noted that Algeria has become a regional energy and industrial hub, producing about 50 billion cubic meters of gas annually and fostering more than 17,000 new investment projects under its reformed investment framework. The country also leads Africa’s start-up ecosystem, boasting over 10,000 active companies.

Dr. Romani also cited the success of the Intra-African Trade Fair held in Algeria in September, which drew participants from 132 countries and generated trade contracts worth $48.3 billion. He said the event reflected Algeria’s emergence as a center for business, innovation, and regional integration.

Inviting Pakistani entrepreneurs to tap into Algeria’s expanding markets in energy, mining, agriculture, and manufacturing, he said both nations could build stronger economic bridges under Pakistan’s “Engage Africa” policy. “Algeria stands ready to deepen cooperation with Pakistan across both public and private sectors,” the envoy added.

In his remarks, Haroon Akhtar Khan praised Algeria’s progress and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to closer economic collaboration. He said Pakistan offers a reliable, investor-friendly environment supported by transparent regulations and strong industrial growth.

“Pakistan is determined to foster partnerships that encourage innovation, protect investment, and drive shared prosperity,” he said, expressing confidence that both countries could advance together in industry, innovation, and trade.

Conveying warm congratulations to the government and people of Algeria on their National Day, he added, “May the friendship between Pakistan and Algeria continue to flourish, guided by shared values and a common vision for a better future.”

The evening concluded with a festive atmosphere, celebrating the brotherly bond and mutual respect that have long defined Algeria–Pakistan relations.
