Abidjan, 11 August 2022 (TDI): The African Development Bank has announced the appointment of Dr Alex Mubiru, as the Director General of the office of the President. The decision would come into force on 16 August 2022.

Dr Alex Mubiru
Since December 2021, Dr Alex Mubiru has been the Acting Director General of the African Development Bank. He has also worked as the Director of Strategy and Delivery in the same cabinet office.
Dr Mubiru is a Ugandan economist and a public administrator with a distinguished career spanning close to 25 years. He started his career with the Thailand development research institute (TDRI) in 1994.
Moreover, by 2001, he was the Project Economist for the World Bank in Thailand. After serving a decade in academia, in 2009 he joined the African Development Bank as Principal Research Economist.
Here, he served at the respective office in Tunisia from 2010 to 2012. He was later the Lead Strategy Advisor to the department of Strategy and Operations Policy from 2012 until 2014.
Previous experience
From 2013 onwards till 2017, Dr Mubiru was the Task Manager for the African Development Bank’s Private Sector strategy. In November 2020, the President of AfDB, Akinwumi Adesina, appointed Dr Alex Mubiru as Director of Strategy and Delivery to his Cabinet.
In response to this appointment, Mubiru thanked Dr Adesina and said, “I am deeply touched and inspired by President Adesina for the confidence he has, once again, placed in me with this appointment.”
Moreover, Dr Akinwumi A. Adesina appreciated the work of Dr Alex Mubiru and said, “Alex’s well-rounded experience as part of the senior leadership team in my cabinet office as well as elsewhere in the institution will allow him to support me effectively at a crucial time in the institution’s history.”
Additionally, Dr Adesina said, “He brings deep institutional knowledge, a solid track record, and a quiet maturity to the role. I am confident that he will have an immediate impact in streamlining strategic initiatives, overseeing program management, and communicating objectives across the institution.”
