Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia Agree to Reactivate Joint Economic Commission

Kabul (TDI): Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia have agreed to revive their Joint Economic Commission, according to an official announcement issued in Kabul.

The move follows approval by the Economic Commission of Afghanistan and directives from the country’s supreme leadership.

The authorized representatives from various ministries, government bodies and the private sector have been nominated to serve on the Afghanistan–Saudi Joint Economic Cooperation Commission. The Afghan delegation will operate under the leadership of the Ministry of Finance Afghanistan.

In this context, Afghan members of the commission convened their first consultative meeting at the Ministry of Finance to coordinate internally on the framework, agenda and mechanisms for engagement with Saudi counterparts. The session aimed to streamline preparations ahead of formal bilateral discussions.

The meeting was attended by Acting Minister for Labour and Social Affairs Mullah Abdul Manan Omari, Deputy Minister for Policy at the Ministry of Finance Engineer Sultan Mohammad Zubair, Deputy Minister for Finance and Administration at the Ministry of Information and Culture Mawlawi Qudratullah Jamal, along with representatives of relevant ministries, state institutions and the private sector.

Participants reviewed the history of economic cooperation between Afghanistan and the Saudi Arabia and underscored the importance of strengthening and expanding bilateral ties. Emphasis was placed on enhancing trade, investment and development collaboration in line with mutual interests.

It was agreed that necessary preparations within government institutions and the private sector would be coordinated to ensure the successful convening of the upcoming session of the Joint Economic Commission between the two countries.
