Herat, 15 April 2024 (TDI): The Taliban announced the inauguration of the Afghan-Kazakh Chamber of Commerce in Herat in the presence of the Kazakh ambassador and the Taliban’s Deputy Minister of Information and Culture on 14 April 2024.
Hayatullah Muhajir Farahi, the IEA’s Deputy Minister of Information and Culture, officiated at the event alongside Alimkhan Yessengeldiyev, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Afghanistan.
The ceremony signifies a growing international recognition of the IEA and its commitment to economic development.
“The establishment of this Chamber of Commerce represents a new chapter in Afghan-Kazakh relations,” stated Farahi. “It will serve as a vital platform for facilitating trade, promoting investment, and strengthening economic cooperation between our two countries.”
This comes as the Ministry of Commerce announced in August last year that the private sectors of Afghanistan and Kazakhstan had signed trade contracts worth over $100 million in the city of Astana.
Kazakhstan is among the countries that have increased their trade relations with Afghanistan following the resurgence of the Taliban regime.
The Chamber will assist businesses in navigating customs procedures, identifying potential trading partners, and resolving commercial disputes. It will also work to attract Kazakh investment into Afghanistan, particularly in sectors with high growth potential such as agriculture, mining, and infrastructure development.

Kazakhstan has a long history of economic cooperation with Afghanistan. The two countries share a border and have significant potential for trade in goods and services.
The inauguration of the Chamber of Commerce is expected to boost bilateral trade volumes and create new opportunities for job creation and economic growth in both countries.
“Kazakhstan is committed to supporting the development of a stable and prosperous Afghanistan,” said Ambassador Yessengeldiyev. “The Chamber of Commerce will play a key role in fostering closer economic ties between our two nations.”
