Kabul, 15 August 2022 (TDI): The Deputy Consular Affairs of the Foreign Ministry of Iran, Ali Reza Begdali and Iran’s Ambassador to Afghanistan, Bahadur Amnian were called on by Foreign Minister of Afghanistan, Maulvi Amir Khan Mutaqqi on Sunday.

The meeting was held in Kabul and was based on bilateral relations between Afghanistan and Iran. The aim of this meeting was to make a pathway for easy consular services for Afghan citizens in Iran.

The provision of consular services was targeted toward those Afghans that are either workers, traders, refugees, or students inside Iran.

A Move towards Improving Relations

The visit of Ali R. Begdali to Afghanistan aims to advance security cooperation between the states. The cooperation revolves around the management of border and security issues at the Afghanistan-Iran border.

The meeting also covered recent tensions between Iranian border guards and Taliban soldiers in the Kang district of Afghanistan’s Nimruz province bordering Iran.

During the meeting, the officials announced the formation of a joint Afghan Iranian Committee. This committee will oversee border issues to avoid clashes between both sides and will help in sorting out bilateral solutions.

The meeting also included negotiations between Kabul and Tehran over legalizing the illegal trips of Afghan nationals to Iran.

Discussion on Visa Issues and Economic Cooperation

In the meeting, the acting Afghan Foreign Minister showed interest in the expansion of ties with Iran. Ali Reza Begdali also urged for boosting of trade and supported his Afghan counterpart in increasing trade activity.

Begdali agreed on terms with Maulvi Amir Khan Mutaqqi to provide legalization of visa statuses to Afghan citizens. He assured protection of Afghan refugees inside Iran and stated that consular facilities will be provided to Afghan traders and workers.

Iran also assured the provision of visas and facilities to those Afghans that will travel via Iran to Karbala, Iraq for religious rituals.
