Afghanistan’s Embassy Marks Victory Day With Flag Raising and an Elaborate Ceremony

Islamabad (TDI): The Embassy of Afghanistan in Pakistan celebrated the Victory Day and the 4th anniversary of end of occupation, with a formal flag-raising which was followed by a ceremony.

The event was attended by Pakistani officials, international diplomats, students, religious scholars, and Afghans living in Pakistan.

Every year, Afghanistan’s interim Taliban-led government marks August 15 as the end of American occupation – the day when US troops left the country in 2021 and Kabul was taken over by the Taliban.

The ceremony was led by Charge d’Affaires Sardar Ahmad Shakib, who is the Afghan Embassy’s acting envoy in Pakistan. He delivered opening remarks, recalling the events and what all this means for consolidation of power in Afghanistan.

Member of the National Assembly of Pakistan, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, was also present at the ceremony and was seen in a formal photograph with the Afghan Charge d’Affaires.

Diplomatic staff of other countries in Islamabad also took part in the event, as four years into Kabul’s takeover, many countries have allowed representation of the Taliban in Afghanistan’s diplomatic missions.

Russia has even formally recognized the Taliban as the legitimate rulers of Afghanistan. Though Pakistan has not formally recognized but a working diplomatic relationship between the two countries exists, where Pakistan’s Embassy in Kabul also celebrated the country’s Independence Day just one day prior.
