ADB Funds Tajikistan Highway Reconstruction Project

Dushanbe (TDI): The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has sanctioned an $86.67 million grant to upgrade Tajikistan’s 49-km Dangara–Guliston highway, transforming it from a two-lane to a four-lane road.

Built in the 1930s and last reconstructed in the 1970s, this will be Tajikistan’s first road project integrating climate adaptation and gender-specific amenities.

ADB’s Central and West Asia Director General Yevgeniy Zhukov stated the project will improve safety and accessibility, featuring cycleways, pedestrian-friendly sidewalks, and enhanced lighting.

Plans include public transport facilities with seating for people with disabilities, toilets, and changing rooms for mothers and babies.
