A.R. Rahman, Saira Banu End Their 29-Year Marriage

NEW DELHI, (TDI): After nearly three decades of marriage, Indian music icon A.R. Rahman and his wife, Saira Banu, have made the difficult decision to separate.

The news was confirmed by Banu’s lawyer, Vandana Shah, who described the split as the result of significant emotional strain within the relationship.

In a statement, Shah explained that despite their enduring affection for one another, the couple had been unable to overcome the growing tensions between them.

Banu, after years of attempting to reconcile their differences, ultimately made the painful choice to part ways.

“This decision was not made lightly,” Shah said, “but after careful consideration of their personal well-being.” The statement also shared Banu’s emotional distress, noting that she has asked for privacy and understanding as she faces this challenging chapter in her life.

Rahman and Banu, who married in 1995 in a union arranged by Rahman’s mother, have three children together: Khatija, Raheema, and Ameen.
