Islamabad (TDI): Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, received Al‑Sheikh Al‑Sayyid Afifuddin Al‑Gilani, the Custodian of the Shrine of Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Qadir Gilani in Baghdad, in a ceremonial meeting in Islamabad.
Chaudhry Usman Nisar Gujjar, a leading business man and CEO of the Panjtan Group – a diverse group spreading over multiple sectors in Pakistan and Malaysia, was also present in the meeting.
The two leaders engaged in detailed discussions on Islamic history, bilateral relations, the shared challenges confronting the Muslim Ummah, and ways to bolster unity and communal progress.
Chairman Senate expressed that Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Qadir Gilani (RA) is held with profound reverence in Pakistan for his spiritual and scholarly legacy. He praised the Gilani family’s ongoing contributions toward faith, scholarship, and public welfare.

He also reiterated his consistent advocacy for the unity, betterment, and progress of the Muslim Ummah, emphasizing that this message informs both Pakistan’s domestic and foreign engagements.
He pointed to a recent agreement to declare Multan as a sister city of Gilan in Iran, describing it as a step forward in cultural diplomacy and people‑to‑people ties.
On the occasion of the 1500th birth anniversary of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), he noted that Pakistan observed the milestone with nationwide respect and official events.

He said the Senate unanimously passed a resolution, and a grand Mehfil‑e‑Milad was held, drawing large numbers of citizens.
In response, Al‑Sheikh Al‑Sayyid Afifuddin Al‑Gilani praised the efforts of the Chairman Senate, both nationally and internationally. He extended a formal invitation to Chairman Senate to visit Baghdad. He also conveyed best wishes for Pakistan’s prosperity and progress.
The meeting concluded with prayers from the Gilani family for the people of Pakistan, for the country’s security, and for relief and rehabilitation of communities affected by recent floods.
