Alarming Rate of Cardiovascular Deaths in Pakistan

Karachi (TDI): Professor Dr. Muhammad Nawaz Lashari, President of the Hypertension League, stated during a symposium on cardiovascular disease awareness that coronary diseases are striking Pakistanis about ten years sooner than they are in Western nations because of adverse habits.

Help International Welfare Trust and Dow University of Health Sciences held a public awareness event. This event highlighted the increasing prevalence of heart disease due to bad lifestyle choices.

Cardiovascular disease affect the kidneys, brain, and heart, among other organs, as Dr. Lashari emphasized. To manage heart attacks, he emphasized the value of workshops and exercises.

Experts including Drs. Muhammad Ishaque, Ghulam Abbas Sheikh, and Tariq Farman also spoke at the conference, pointing out that drastically lowering the prevalence of heart disease may be achieved by adopting healthier lives.

NICVD Associate Professor Dr. Khalid Bhatti pointed out that heart disease accounts for 8% of Pakistani deaths, with smoking and obesity being the causes.

It was brought to his attention that smoking narrows blood vessels, which raises the risk of heart disease and cancer.

Dr. Bhatti expressed concerns on the increasing tendency of young people using vapes and e-cigarettes as contemporary smoking substitutes.

Dr. Tariq Ashraf, a consultant cardiologist, spoke on the significance of lifestyle changes in preventing heart disease and offered advice on how to measure blood pressure effectively.

As he described how obesity causes diseases like diabetes and hypertension, Dr. Noman Kake Poto connected obesity to early heart-related fatalities.

Dr. Kaleemullah Sheikh and other speakers recommended at least 150 to 300 minutes of exercise weekly to enhance cardiovascular health.
