Ho Chi Minh City (TDI): On the eve of the Mid-Autumn Festival, which falls on September 17 this year, the Information Office and the Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Yunnan Province hosted the Reception Celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China and the “Blooming Flowers and Full Moon” China-Vietnam Mid-Autumn Festival Gala in Ho Chi Minh City, alongside the Chinese Consulate-General in the city.
A few days ago, Super Typhoon Yagi struck northern Vietnam, causing severe property damage and numerous casualties.
The typhoon also caused devastation across several provinces in southern China.
Prior to the artistic performances, a group of Chinese-funded business associations in Vietnam, including the China Business Association Ho Chi Minh City Branch, donated VND 3.8 billion (equivalent to RMB 1.1 million) to the Vietnam Fatherland Front in Ho Chi Minh City.
The gala opened with the dance performance “Beauty in Harmony.” Themed “Blooming Flowers and Full Moon,” the event featured four segments: “Flowers” (Blossoms in Abundance), “Prosperity” (A Year of Good Fortune and Prosperity), “Moon” (Full Moon during the Mid-Autumn Festival), and “Reunion” (Celebrating Together).
Artists and art troupes from China and Vietnam celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival and the China-Vietnam friendship with captivating performances of song and dance.
In Vietnam, the Mid-Autumn Festival is a key occasion for family reunions and a time of fun for children. The gala included an interactive program, “Blessings from Chang’e,” designed especially for Vietnamese children. Dancers, dressed as Chang’e, the Chinese Goddess of the Moon, moved through the audience, distributing Mid-Autumn Festival-themed cultural and creative products such as drawstring pouches, rabbit figurines, and lanterns.
“I have visited Kunming, Dali, and Shangri-La in Yunnan. Yunnan is a stunning and beautiful place, and the Chinese people are always friendly and hospitable to us,” said Lam Quang Duc, a Vietnamese-Chinese translator. He praised the excellent performances by Vietnamese and Chinese artists, highlighting that they symbolized the deep friendship between the two nations.
“This gala showcases the interaction and blending of traditional Chinese and Vietnamese cultures,” said Miao Peng from Yunnan, China. He added that artists from both countries used song and dance to express their hopes for the future, aiming to deepen people-to-people exchanges and strengthen mutual understanding between the two nations.
The gala is part of the 2024 “Blooming Flowers and Full Moon” Mid-Autumn Festival Cultural Exchange.
The five-day event also includes the “Sharing the Same Moon” Mid-Autumn Festival Cultural Salon and the “Harmony under the Same Moon” Photo Exhibition, showcasing the diverse and vibrant life in Yunnan.
