New York, (TDI): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif landed in New York on Monday to participate in the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) during his five-day official visit to the United States.
The prime minister is scheduled to deliver his address to the UNGA on Friday, where he will present Pakistan’s stance on various international and regional issues, notably the Kashmir dispute and the situation in Palestine.
He aims to reaffirm Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to multilateralism and highlight the United Nations’ crucial role in promoting global peace, security, and prosperity.
During the UNGA session, PM Shehbaz will engage in several high-level meetings, including discussions focused on the existential threats posed by rising sea levels and an open debate on ‘Leadership for Peace’ within the UN Security Council.
He is also set to hold bilateral meetings with world leaders and meet with UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
Additionally, the prime minister will confer with World Bank President Ajay Banga and IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva.
The session will witness participation from over 130 heads of state and government.

PM Shehbaz is expected to attend a reception hosted by UN chief Guterres for heads of member countries, where he will have informal meetings with various leaders on Tuesday.
He will also participate in the inaugural event of the UNGA 2024 session.
On the sidelines, he will hold discussions with Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu.

According to the Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, along with senior government officials, will accompany PM Shehbaz during his visit, which will conclude on September 27.
