Xi meets Kenyan President

BEIJING, 3 September 2024 (TDI): Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday met with the visiting Kenyan President William Ruto emphasizing strategic cooperation between the two countries.

Ruto is in Beijing for the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

On this occasion Xi said that the two countries have been at the forefront of jointly advancing Belt and Road cooperation and completed a number of flagship infrastructure projects.

He highlighted that such projects are significantly contributing to regional economic and social development and benefiting people of the two countries.

China and Kenya should work together to deepen their comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, Xi stressed.

Over a decade, within the framework of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and the BRI, there has been an effective integration of Kenya Vision 2030 and the BRI. In this connection Kenya is an exemplary case among African countries for BRI cooperation.

In 2021, China’s direct investment stock in Kenya amounted to US$2.26 billion, one of the highest in the continent.

Leaders from the African countries are in China for attending the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

Africa and China understand that they are sharing common history and culture and suffered from imperial powers in the past.

China is motivated to find out new market for its products and also enhance ties with international partners in Africa.

China has launched several important developmental projects in Africa and Kenya is its top partner in the region.
