Yunnan (TDI): The 9th China-South Asia Expo kicked off in Kunming, Yunnan, on June 19 and will last for six days, with participants from 73 countries/regions and international organizations, including over
2,500 companies, covering all South Asian and Southeast Asian countries.
This year’s Expo continues with the theme of “Solidarity and Cooperation for Common
Development,” with Sri Lanka as the theme country and Thailand as the special partner country.
Among the 16 exhibition halls, nearly 70% are specialized halls, dedicated to manufacturing.
Green Energy, Coffee Industry, and Chinese Medicinal Herb Industry etc.
These halls focus on showcasing advanced manufacturing, clean energy, modern agriculture, and other areas with trade and economic cooperation potential between China and South Asian and Southeast Asian countries. This year, products from South Asian countries will be showcased on a larger platform,
with two dedicated South Asian halls and nearly 800 booths. India and Pakistan have the most
booths, each with 140.
The previous eight editions of the Expo have cumulatively served more than 20,000 domestic and
foreign companies and facilitated foreign trade transactions exceeding USD 110 billion. The Expo
has become an important platform for China and South Asian countries to enhance
communication, deepen cooperation, and seek common development.
Data from the Ministry of Commerce of China shows that in 2024, China’s trade with South Asian countries reached approximately USD 200 billion, doubling in a decade with an average annual growth rate of about 6.3%. For several years in a row, China has been the largest trading partner of Pakistan and Bangladesh.
During this year’s Expo, nearly 40 specialized economic and trade events, including the China-
South Asia Cooperation Forum and the United Nations and International Public Procurement
South Asian Market Demand Analysis and Project Matching Conference, as well as the “Invest in
China, Invest in Yunnan” series of activities will be held to accurately match supply and demand
and serve the needs of exhibitors and buyers.
