Tokyo: July 21, 2021 –(TDI): The 8th ROK-U.S.-Japan Vice Foreign Ministerial Meeting took place today in Tokyo, Japan between U.S. Deputy Secretary of State, Wendy R. Sherman, ROK Viceminister of Foreign Affairs, Choi Jong Kun, and Japanese Vice Foreign Minister, Takeo Mori. During this meeting, views and opinions were exchanged in areas of common interest such as issues of the Korean peninsula and other regional and global matters.
Deputy Secretary Sherman, Vice Minister Choi and Vice Minister Mori shared similar views on the significance of this dialogue which would help them achieve the desired by all denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. They recognized the need to establish peace in this region, an interest that is common to all three countries, and settled at making diplomatic efforts to achieve this aim. They shared their concerns regarding the prevalent issue in Myanmar while restating their commitment to resolve the matter.
In addition, they reiterated the need for this trilateral consultation to address numerous global problems such as global health and climate change. It was decided that the minister will meet frequently to establish close communication in their pursuit to resolve regional and global issues.
