Istanbul, 9 March 2022 (TDI): The 8th Istanbul Mediation Conference will be held on March 10, 2022. The conference will be held under the patronage of Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu.

It will serve as a precursor to the Antalya Diplomacy Forum (ADF), at the same site, with the theme of “Spotlight on Mediation in a Changing Peace Landscape.”

The goal is to build a synergy between the two events, as well as to address topics of preventative diplomacy and mediation as part of the ADF’s broader theme of “Recoding Diplomacy.”

The Conference will begin with the “High-Level Opening Session” hosted by the Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu. The Foreign Ministers of Kuwait and Palestine will speak at this session where the Secretaries-General of the UN and the OSCE will join via video messages.

The Conference will proceed with the Masters’ Stage, where renowned mediators will share their insight. Subsequently, on the topic “Women and Youth in Peace Mediation” a duet will be made by a panel on the significance of women and youth inclusion in mediation processes.

As with past Conferences, the 8th Istanbul Mediation Conference will bring together world leaders, diplomats, experts, members and executives of international organizations, academia, and think tank members.

Representatives from six international/regional organizations and 25 think tanks will be present at the Conference, which will be attended by 200 delegates from more than 40 countries.

The Conference will be live-streamed on the Turkish Foreign Ministry’s official YouTube channel. Since the creation of the UN’s “Mediation for Peace” initiative in 2010, Turkey has played a prominent role in the peaceful resolution of conflicts.

Being the only country to simultaneously co-chair Contact Groups/Groups of Friends on Mediation at the UN, the OSCE, and the OIC; Türkiye has been hosting the Istanbul Mediation Conferences since 2012. The Conferences have grown to become one of the world’s leading forums for conflict resolution and mediation.
