Kuala Lumpur, 31 August 2021 (TDI): Malaysia Independence Day, also known as National Day or ‘Hari Merdeka’ is celebrated every year on 31st August. The day is observed to celebrate Malaysia’s Independence Day from the British colonial administration in 1957.
This year marks the 64th Independence Day of Malaysia.
Every year, people celebrate Independence Day with much pomp and pageantry, showing the unity of all races and creeds in Malaysia. Usually, celebrations in Malaysia start at beginning of August, include various national competitions and programs.
Malaysia is situated in Southeast Asia. The capital of Malaysia is Kuala Lumpur. The Malaysian flag is also known as Stripes of Glory. It consists of 14 horizontal red and white alternating stripes, and a blue canton with a yellow crescent and star. The ratio of the width to length of the flag is 1 to 2.
Islam is the official religion, and the official language is Malay, and English remains the second language.
As of 2021, the estimated population of Malaysia is about 32.7 million people.
