Nanning, 21 July 2022 (TDI): The third China-ASEAN Justice Forum was held in a hybrid format in Nanning, China on 20th July.
The event was hosted by the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region’s High People’s Court and coordinated by the People’s Republic of China’s Supreme People’s Court.
The objective of this forum meeting was to assist in the establishment of a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. In addition, the aim was to improve judicial interactions and collaboration between China and ASEAN.
During the inaugural ceremony, Chief Justice of the People’s Republic of China and President of the Supreme People’s Court of China, Zhou Qiang made special remarks.
Chief Justices of ten ASEAN nations, and the Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dato Lim Jock Hoi were also present there.
Whereas, UNION Chief Justice U Htun Htun Oo participated in the third China-ASEAN Justice Forum via videoconference.
Theme and Topics of Discussion
The forum discussed a number of issues. The theme of the discussion was “Establishing a High-Level Judicial Cooperation Platform to Jointly Building the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road”.
Moreover, the topics discussed under the theme include “Accelerate the Adaptation of New RCEP Economic and Trade Rules to Provide Judicial Services for Regional Trade and Investment”, “Enhance Intellectual Property Right Cooperation to Improve the International Protection of Intellectual Property Rights”; and “Promote Cross-Border Online Litigation to Provide Judicial Assistance for Pandemic Prevention and Control and Economic Recovery”.
In the end, the participants adopted the Nanning Statement of the 3rd China-ASEAN Justice Forum.
Along with this, the participants praised the forum mechanism for taking the initiative to improve judicial contacts and collaboration.
Moreover, the participants acknowledged the vitality of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). The participants agreed to continue efforts to increase collaboration in judicial training.
It was vowed to protect intellectual property rights and establish a globally market-oriented and law-based business environment to promote research and exchange.
