Beijing, 13 June 2022 (TDI): The 28th ASEAN-China Senior Officials’ Consultation was held through a video link. It was co-hosted by Assistant Foreign Minister, Wu Jianghao and Permanent Secretary of Myanmar U Chan Aye.

It was attended by senior officials of other ASEAN member states and the Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN.

The two sides reviewed the progress and enhancing the China-ASEAN comprehensive strategic partnership as well as international and regional issues of common concern.

Assistant Foreign Minister, Wu Jianghao said that President Xi Jinping and ASEAN leaders attended the Special Summit last November.

He announced the China-ASEAN comprehension strategic partnership making it a new milestone in the history of bilateral relations.

China is ready to work with ASEAN and build the “five homes”, i.e. a peaceful home, a safe and secure home, a prosperous home, a beautiful home, and an amicable home, jointly advancing Belt and Road cooperation.

Furthermore, it aims to promote the effective synergy between the Global Development Initiative and Global Security Initiative along with the building of the ASEAN community.

Further, expand practical cooperation in various fields and promote regional peace, stability, and prosperity. Participants exchanged views on the development of the mechanisms, post-pandemic recovery, as well as international and regional issues of common concern.

China’s support for ASEAN countries

ASEAN countries highly appreciate China’s achievements in pandemic response and economic and social development. Thanked China for its strong support and assistance in ASEAN’s fight against COVID-19 and economic recovery.

Further, they appreciated China’s support for ASEAN’s centrality in the regional architecture. In addition, they also discussed strengthening cooperation in fields such as political security, economy, and trade.

Furthermore, public health, connectivity, sustainable development, digital economy, and food security. It will build a meaningful, substantive, and mutually beneficial comprehensive strategic partnership between China and ASEAN.
