ISLAMABAD, 27 August 2024 (TDI): At least 25 terrorists have been killed and four soldiers martyred during intelligence-based operations in the northwestern Khyber district of Pakistan, a military statement said on Tuesday.
The operations took place in Tirah Valley of Khyber district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to a press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), extensive intelligence-based operations against “Fitnah-ul-Khawarij,” also known as Lashkar-e-Islam and Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, in the Tirah Valley of Khyber district have resulted in significant losses for the group.
Since August 20, these operations have led to the killing of 25 Khawarij, including their leader Abu Zar alias Saddam, with 11 Khawarij injured.
The ISPR statement also noted that four soldiers fought bravely and laid down their lives for the defense of the nation, embracing martyrdom.
“The heavy losses inflicted on Fitnah-ul-Khawarij during these operations are proof of the determination of the security forces and their commitment to eradicating terrorism,” the ISPR said.
Earlier today, the Federal Cabinet has approved a Rs20 billion allocation for Operation Azm-e-Istehkam in response to the recent escalation in terrorist attacks across the country.
The Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the cabinet received a comprehensive briefing on the security situation, prompting the approval of the Rs20 billion funding for the anti-terrorism operation. This allocation had previously been endorsed by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC).
The cabinet’s decision follows a series of devastating terrorist attacks in Balochistan, which claimed nearly 53 lives, including 14 military personnel.
