159th session of GCC Ministerial Council in Riyadh

Riyadh, 4 March 2024 (TDI): The 159th session of the GCC Ministerial Council took place on Sunday, March 3, 2024, at the General Secretariat headquarters in Riyadh.

According to the reports, the summit was led by Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.

However, he is serving as the president of the current session of the Ministerial Council. The meeting was also attended by the foreign ministers of the GCC countries.

Reviewing decisions and discussing developments

Moreover, the conference reviewed reports on executing decisions from the 44th session of the GCC Supreme Council in Doha in December 2023. It also discussed the latest global and regional developments.

Following the 159th session of the GCC Ministerial Council, Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jassim Al Thani, revealed sideline talks with Egypt, Jordan, and Morocco.

During the session, leaders discussed strategies to strengthen the partnership between the GCC and the Arab Republic of Egypt. They also deliberated on the joint action plan.

Promoting progress and prosperity

In a speech, Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs stated that a common intention for cooperation emerged.

Meanwhile, it arises from a desire to strengthen and improve ties between the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council and Egypt.

Following the session, Egypt’s Foreign Minister Shoukry met with Foreign Ministers from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) States within a cooperative political dialogue framework.

He emphasized Egypt’s strong relationship with the Gulf and its commitment to preserving Arab states’ peace and security.

Reportedly, he added that this intention includes continuing discussions in various disciplines to promote progress and prosperity in the region.

Qatar’s mediation efforts

In addition, Jassim Al Thani stated that the State of Qatar has undertaken major attempts to act as a mediator between Israel and Hamas.

Alongside the sisterly Arab Republic of Egypt and the friendly United States of America, Qatar is working to end the war in Gaza.

Additionally, the State of Qatar will continue its efforts to collaborate with all engaged countries to achieve a lasting peace agreement.
