15th Round of Pak-Russia Consultative Group on Strategic Stability

Islamabad (TDI): The 15th round of Pakistan-Russia Consultative Group on Strategic Stability was held in Islamabad on 16 April 2025.

Pakistan was represented by Additional Foreign Secretary (Arms Control & Disarmament), Tahir Andrabi while Russian delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, S.A. Ryabkov.

Comprehensive discussions were held on global security, regional stability, and various aspects of arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation.

Both sides noted strong convergence of views across a broad agenda and agreed to maintain close coordination—bilaterally and at relevant international fora.

The Joint Press Statement of the Dialogue read: “The parties also exchanged views on matters related to the agenda of the First Committee of the UN General Assembly, the Conference on Disarmament, the International Atomic Energy Agency, the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and the Biological Weapons Convention.”

“The issues concerning Space, International Information Security, and New & Emerging Technologies, including the military use of artificial intelligence, came under discussion.”

“The two sides expressed satisfaction at the convergence of views on the range of topics. It was agreed to hold the 16th meeting of the Group next year in Moscow,” the Joint Statement further said.

Pakistan was represented by senior Foreign Affairs officer Mohammad Kamran Akhtar and the joint statement noted that the diplomats discussed a range of matters falling under the UN Disarmament and International Security Committee, and other relevant international bodies including the International Atomic Energy Agency and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.
