Ottawa (TDI): Ten people, including the suspected gunwoman, were killed after a shooting at a high school in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, on Tuesday, authorities confirmed. The attacker is believed to have taken her own life.
According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), six victims were found inside the school. Two more bodies were discovered at a nearby residence believed to be linked to the incident, while another person died while being transported to hospital.
Police said at least two individuals remain in hospital with serious or life-threatening injuries. Around 25 others are being treated for less severe injuries.
Officers located the suspected shooter dead at the school from what appears to be a self-inflicted wound. Authorities said they do not believe there are additional suspects and have indicated there is no ongoing threat to the public.
The suspect was described as a woman, an uncommon detail, as most mass shootings in North America have involved male perpetrators. An earlier emergency alert described her as “female in a dress with brown hair.” Police Superintendent Ken Floyd later confirmed that the person referenced in the alert was the same individual found dead inside the school. Officials have not yet disclosed the ages of the victims.

Tumbler Ridge is a remote town of roughly 2,400 residents in northern British Columbia, situated in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains about 1,155 kilometres northeast of Vancouver. Images from the area show a snow-covered landscape surrounded by dense forest.
Superintendent Floyd described the scene as chaotic and deeply distressing. “Multiple injuries and multiple deceased were inside the school as officers progressed through the building,” he told reporters, adding that some victims were still receiving care and that details may evolve as the investigation continues.
