China Blames EC for EV Stalemate

-

Beijing, (TDI): China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) has voiced disappointment over the European Commission’s (EC) rejection of price offers from Chinese electric vehicle (EV) producers, accusing the EC of lacking sincerity in resolving the dispute through dialogue.

The ministry stressed China’s commitment to protecting the rights and interests of its firms.

A MOFCOM spokesperson criticized the EC for dismissing Chinese industry’s flexible solutions without further communication, noting that the decision undermines confidence in continued cooperation.

“If the talks fail to reach consensus, the responsibility lies entirely with the European side,” the spokesperson added.

This follows the EC’s decision on Thursday to reject offers from Chinese EV makers for minimum import prices, a move the MOFCOM deemed inconsistent with the EC’s public claims of resolving the issue through dialogue.

Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao is set to visit Europe on September 19 to hold discussions with EC Executive Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis on the EU’s anti-subsidy case against Chinese EVs.

Experts echoed China’s position, urging the EC to engage in sincere dialogue and find solutions aligned with WTO rules.
