# President Zardari Invites Guatemalan Investment, Proposes Joint Ventures Under SIFC

**Islamabad (TDI):** President Asif Ali Zardari has invited Guatemalan investors and business leaders to explore opportunities in Pakistan through the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), a one-window platform designed to streamline foreign investments in key sectors such as agriculture, information technology, energy, mining, and defense production.

The president extended the invitation during a meeting with former Guatemalan President and current Speaker of Parliament Jimmy Morales, who called on him at Aiwan-e-Sadr on Wednesday.

Welcoming the visiting dignitary, President Zardari said that Pakistan values its ties with Guatemala and is keen to deepen cooperation in trade, investment, and people-to-people exchanges. He noted that both nations share common goals in rural development, climate resilience, and economic modernization, identifying sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, and health sciences as promising areas for joint ventures.

The president also acknowledged Guatemala’s support for Pakistan at the United Nations, including during Pakistan’s candidatures for the Human Rights Council and UN Security Council, and called for continued collaboration at international platforms. He emphasized the need to strengthen parliamentary and institutional linkages, saying that geographical distance should not stand in the way of closer engagement.

Morales, in response, expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s hospitality during the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers Conference, noting that such forums help create avenues for practical cooperation.

He said Guatemala, the largest country in Central America, was eager to learn from Pakistan’s development experience and expand business and trade ties between the two nations. “I am here to open doors between Pakistan and Guatemala,” he remarked.

Chairman Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, Senator Sherry Rehman, and Senator Saleem Mandviwala also attended the meeting.
