Islamabad (TDI): On the occasion of Sri Lanka’s 78th Independence Day, President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari extended warm greetings to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the Government, and the people of Sri Lanka.
In his message, President Zardari highlighted the unity, resilience, and rich cultural heritage of the Sri Lankan people, praising their continued progress and national pride.
“Pakistan and Sri Lanka share a time-tested friendship, having stood together through challenges and achievements alike,” he said. The President also acknowledged the role of Pakistan’s armed forces in supporting Sri Lanka’s efforts to combat terrorism within its borders.
President Zardari appreciated Sri Lanka’s contribution to South Asian cooperation, noting that Colombo hosted the 6th (1991), 10th (1998), and 15th (2008) SAARC summits. He also criticised India for delaying SAARC meetings for nearly 12 years, citing its obstruction of Pakistan’s hosting of the next summit.
