Aden, 6 October 2021 (TDI): The Yemeni Prime Minister Dr. Maeen Abdulmalek Saeed received the envoy of the United Nations to Yemen, Hans Grundberg. The agenda of the meeting was to review the prevalent situation.
An assortment of issues was touched upon during the engagement. The importance of a comprehensive peace plan, briefing the Security Council, and the subsequent results of the meeting came under discussion.
The intransigence of the Houthi militia is the main hindrance in reinstating peace. The increased aggression, crimes, and targeting of civilians are worrisome. A comprehensive peace plan is required to address the conflict at the grass-root level. An amalgamation of regional and international efforts to eradicate the foothold of the Houthis is the only way forward.
Meanwhile, the UN envoy stressed the peace process and the UN resolutions. The government’s legitimate claim on Yemen can be strengthened by persistent economic and humanitarian aid by regional and international entities.
