# Xi Pledges ‘Constructive Role’ for China in Middle East Peace Efforts

**Beijing (TDI):** Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday reaffirmed that China would play a “constructive role” in advancing peace efforts in the Middle East, while stressing the importance of respecting the sovereignty of nations in the region.

Xi made the remarks during a meeting in Beijing with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, where he outlined proposals aimed at promoting stability in the Middle East and the Gulf.

His comments come after recent talks between the United States and Iran in Pakistan failed to produce a breakthrough, with US Vice President JD Vance saying progress now depends on Tehran’s next steps.

According to Chinese state media, Xi emphasized Beijing’s long-standing position of encouraging dialogue and peaceful resolution of conflicts. He reiterated that China would continue to support diplomatic initiatives aimed at de-escalation.

Xi stressed that the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of countries in the region must be fully respected. He also underscored the need to uphold international law consistently, warning against selective application based on political interests.

The Chinese leader further highlighted the importance of maintaining a global order centred on the United Nations and called for stronger coordination on both security and development challenges.

Meanwhile, diplomatic activity in Beijing has intensified, with President of Vietnam To Lam and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also arriving in the Chinese capital to discuss regional and bilateral issues.

Russia has indicated that Lavrov will hold talks with China’s top diplomat Wang Yi, with a focus on the Middle East situation and ways to reduce tensions.

At the same time, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez is visiting China this week, primarily to strengthen economic ties, though he also acknowledged Beijing’s potential role in supporting peace efforts in the Middle East.
